KSplash/ML offers users a vastly configurable splash screen
(login status window) for KDE. It is a binary replacement
for the standard bin/ksplash program, AND WILL OVERWRITE THIS
FILE WHEN INSTALLED. You have been warned.

If you elect to install /ML, you will find that it supports a
modern themeing engine. Using the new ThemeEngine code, you
can develop themes which look any way you want! The standard
/ML themes have been ported to the new ThemeEngine code, and
are more easily customizable now than _ever_ _before_! If you,
a developer, do not like the Themes I have provided, you are
welcome to create your own ThemeEngines which present the
login process in C++, and provide it as a source download for
those who wish to use your dynamic splash screen. (I have
written an example ThemeEngine illustrating this, called "ks2k,"
which you will find on the KSplash/ML website.)

As an additional feature, distribution builders can make use
of /ML's "Managed Mode" - an interactive control system for
using KSplash/ML to display system startup messages. It is
trivial to modify your system's startup scripts to boot into
X (once all filesystems are scanned), and use KSplash/ML to
display system startup information to the user, rather than
the unix startup text, which most end-users consider to be
confusing. Please see "ksecho" for some help on setting this
up (or e-mail me).

You may find KSplash/ML, and any contributed Themes and Engines,
at its homepage:
